Client Onboarding Portal

The Client Onboarding Portal was built to streamline the initial specification and approval process for our zinc-rich thermosetting epoxy primers and high-density polyurethane films. Previously, engineers and procurement teams had to exchange multiple emails and PDFs to confirm coating system details for structural steel projects exposed to aggressive chemical environments.

The portal consolidates product data sheets, application guidelines, and project-specific coating recommendations into a single, role-based interface. A project engineer can log in, select the steel profile type, specify the chemical exposure class, and immediately see the recommended primer-topcoat combination with estimated coverage rates and curing times.

Implementation Details

We built the portal using a lightweight PHP backend with a MySQL database that stores product formulations, environmental resistance tables, and historical project records. The front end uses a clean, form-driven layout that guides the user through five steps: project identification, substrate condition, exposure classification, coating selection, and document generation.

Each step validates input against our internal technical standards. For example, if the user selects a chemical exposure class that requires a minimum dry film thickness of 250 microns, the system automatically filters out incompatible primers and highlights the required number of coats. This reduces specification errors and ensures compliance with ISO 12944 and NACE standards.

Key Outcomes

  • Specification time reduced from an average of 3 days to under 2 hours per project.
  • Document generation produces a complete coating specification sheet, including application notes and safety data references, in PDF format.
  • User feedback from three pilot projects indicated a 40% reduction in clarification calls between the engineering team and the coatings supplier.
  • The portal now handles an average of 12 active project specifications per week, with a 98% completion rate without manual intervention.

The portal is currently in use by our technical sales team and has been adopted by two major structural steel fabricators in the chemical processing sector. A public-facing version with limited access is planned for Q3 to allow direct client input during the early design phase.
